How to use hashtags on Pinterest effectively
If you’re looking for your pins to really gain traction and get noticed then I don’t think any creative business out there can really ignore hashtags on Pinterest anymore.
In my opinion Pinterest is described best as a visual search engine. For a long time the descriptions you wrote to accompany that beautiful image of yours was key and if you haven’t added hashtags to previous posts then I wouldn’t suggest you go back and amend them. However, from now on I would urge you to utilise the following tips when it comes to your pins lovelies…
Research the keywords to include in your hashtags first
You can research which keywords to use first in the search feed to form your hashtag sets for Pinterest. Unlike Instagram with Pinterest I recommend utilising more board search terms over specific.
Don’t use too many hashtags
Pinterest has specified that users can use up to 20 hashtags per post. Personally I think that is overdoing it and so I tend to go in at around 5-7 hashtags per post.
Will users find me through clicking on hashtags or via the search function?
In short, they will find you via the search function. The whole aim of them is your messaging to Pinterest has to be specific and tell them exactly what your pin is all about so it will then show up in the feed for when a corresponding search term is entered.
